Bittersweet Easter for Willo

Defender returned to action over the weekend...

24 April 2019

Easter Monday was a bittersweet day for returning George Williams.

After over three months on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, the defender made his Stadium MK return against Port Vale but he wasn’t able to inspire the side to victory off the bench - instead he and MK Dons were forced to settle for a point.

“It was frustrating,” Williams said when meeting with the media after the 1-1 draw - a result which sees the Dons slip out of the automatic-promotion places with two games left to play

“It feels good to be back, but the feeling of coming off without three points is frustrating. I'd much rather be here with three points.

"It's hard to put our finger on [what went wrong]. We should have won it, we had a few good chances. But we started the second half a bit flat, and it killed us a bit.”

The Dons will need to pick themselves quickly as they face a tough trip to play-off chasing Colchester United this weekend where a victory will be vital if they are to keep their top-three ambitions alive.

While disappointed with Monday’s result, Williams is confident that the players can lift their spirits in time for Saturday’s game in Essex.

“It's a little bit flat at the moment, it's going to be, but we're a good group,” he commented.

“We'll dissect it, talk about it in the dressing room and then we've just got to look at the Colchester game, regroup and go again.

“We've got to give ourselves the best chance possible on the final day and that means going to get three points [at Colchester United] first and then whatever else happens, happens.”
