MK Dons loanee Callum Tripp contributed two goals in St Albans City’s Herts Senior County Cup final against Berkhamsted.

National League South side St Albans City prepared to face their Southern Central Division One opposition, Berkhamsted.

In the middle of March, the young Dons midfielder signed loan terms with The Saints, where he would remain until the conclusion of the current campaign.

Tripp was named amongst the starters in the Cup final fixture which would see the victor take all the spoils.

St Albans opened the scoring 20 minutes into the match, but only to see the game drawn level once again through Berkhamsted’s quick-fire response just minutes after.

It looked as if the score-line would remain unchanged as the game neared its half-time break, but The Saints had managed to craft one last attack which proved fatal as they were awarded with a penalty kick in the dying moments of the half.

Converting their spot-kick, St Albans City led two goals to one with 45 minutes of action left to play.

Reminiscent of their first goal, The Comrades sought to respond to their adversity quickly, and that was achieved through McCelland’s successful strike.

54 Minutes into to the tie, Callum Tripp had made his mark and regained the advantage for St Albans, firing home a half-volley hit which bulged the net of the opposition.

Berkhamsted’s threat to draw level once more was prominent, but it never came to fruition as Tripp snuffed out the danger and grabbed his second of the game with both hands.

Completing a counter-attacking move, the 17-year-old ultimately provided The Saints with the breathing room necessary to see out the remainder of the final with their two-goal lead.

St Albans City had been crowned victors of the Herts Senior County Cup competition as Tripp lifted the trophy in celebration alongside his team.
