Gilbey: No game is easy

MK Dons Captain Alex Gilbey shared his thoughts ahead of the Stadium MK clash against the Rovers…

Alex Gilbey reassured the press that ‘no game is going to be easy’ ahead of the upcoming Sky Bet League Two fixture against Doncaster Rovers at Stadium MK.

Involved within the starting squad for each match so far, Gilbey provided an insight into his thoughts on the start of the season, as well as looking ahead to the welcoming of Grant McCann’s side on Saturday afternoon.

Whilst both teams currently occupy positions at either end of the league table, the number eight reinforced the messaged that “No game will be easy in League Two. The Gaffer (Graham Alexander) instilled that in us early on.

“The season has started really well, and with three wins out of four league games it can’t have gotten too much better.”

Prior to Saturday’s Stadium MK skirmish, MK Dons claimed their third league victory, and in-turn three points following a dramatic end to a triumph over Colchester United on the road.

Alex Gilbey’s equaliser in the 88 minute of the match allowed Graham Alexander’s men to push on and ultimately earn a winner through Matt Dennis. When questioned on the recent success, Gilbey said “We could have played better but when you're getting three points, it's all people want.

“Last week proved how fit we are, and how good pre-season was to be that far into a game and still be pushing for an equaliser and a winner after that.”

On his equalising goal, the number eight added “I'm pleased with the goal. I don't think I had much impact on the game before that, I put myself about, but I didn't get as much of the ball as I'd have liked. I've been trying to make marks on games, and thankfully that one happened.”

The midfielder also shared his thoughts on the role he has been trusted with by Graham Alexander “I'm trying to have more involvement in games. The gaffer has given me licence to be box-to-box, which is what I'm best at.”

“I'm really enjoying it, I feel really good, feeling really strong and long may it continue.”

Now, Gilbey and MK Dons look ahead to the next league test in Doncaster Rovers, who will be welcomed to Stadium MK as Graham Alexander’s men go in search of back-to-back league wins.

When asked about the upcoming fixture, Gilbey had this to say “They'll be a tough test.

“They were one of the league’s favourites early on, because they’ve put a really good squad together over the summer and everybody knows how good Grant McCann is as a manager as well.

“But we’re in a good position at the moment, so we just want to keep on winning games.”
