Micciche: A week to put things right

Dan reflects on heavy Wigan defeat...

9 April 2018

After a disappointing trip to Greater Manchester last Saturday, Dan Micciche and MK Dons will look to put things right this weekend when they take on Doncaster Rovers at Stadium MK.

Micciche’s side were beaten 5-1 by title-chasing Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium – a result which keeps them inside in Sky Bet League One’s bottom four, one point adrift of safety.

“We have to look at ourselves,” Micciche said in his post-match press conference. “This is the first time we've been done by a big scoreline and we've now got a week to put this right.

“We've had a difficult week against two of the best teams in the league but the second half against Blackburn [Rovers] showed we can compete, so I don't want those excuses – where they are in the league doesn’t make it an acceptable result.

“As a manager, I have to have a thick skin, be positive and lead by example. We didn’t discuss the game afterwards – I just told them to move on.”

Here is what else Micciche had to say in his post-match press conference...
On the defeat...
“I think the difference between the two sides was in both boxes. We started quite well, but conceded the first goal from not picking up in the box. Then we scored an own goal. We showed character, as we have done throughout my time here, by scoring a good goal, and then we had two good chances before half time, and two more chances which we should take in the second half. We have to be less wasteful in front of goal and we have to defend better.”

On results elsewhere in Sky Bet League One...
“One positive was the results elsewhere. We're at that stage now where we have our target, but psychologically we want other results to go for us too. It's still very tight down there but we have to take care of our own business.”
