Striker makes second international appearance in victory over DR Congo...

20 November 2023

Mo Eisa earned his second cap for Sudan on Sunday, featuring from the start in their 1-0 victory over the DR Congo.

The MK Dons striker, who made his international debut in Sudan’s 1-1 draw with Togo, played 64 minutes as the Secretarybirds made it four points from their first two FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Sudan currently top their CAF Qualifying group, a point ahead of Senegal. The winner of the group will progress through to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the runners-up will take part in a possible play-off, depending on their points total.

Meanwhile, two other Dons were involved in international action over the weekend, though both were on the wrong end of results.

Tommy Smith played 90 minutes as New Zealand were beaten 2-0 by Greece in an international friendly at the Georgios Kamaras Stadium in Athens.

Also on the end of a 2-0 defeat was Northern Ireland Under-19s, who went down to the Czech Republic at Inver Park in Larne. MK Dons defender Phoenix Scholtz was an unused substitute.

Both players will have opportunities to bounce back on Tuesday. Smith and New Zealand face the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin (KO 7.45pm GMT) while Scholtz and Northern Ireland Under-19s face Portugal (KO 7pm GMT).
