Graham Alexander’s men near the halfway point of their six-week pre-season training programme. iFollow MK Dons spoke with midfielder Dawson Devoy, who shared his thoughts about the preparations so far.
Following two weeks of intensive training, MK Dons faced Wealdstone in their opening pre-season friendly, which Devoy featured in for 65 minutes.
Not only did the fixture at Grosvenor Vale provide match fitness, but also an opportunity for the Dons fans to view and meet the team ahead of the upcoming season.
“The fans are what make the club, so it was great to see them show up during the game and the shirt sales meet and greet.” Dawson said after interacting with the supporters.
The focus then switched to the work that’s been going into pre-season training, the Irishmen replied “It’s been tough as we’re pushing ourselves every day, but it’s been good and we’re already feeling fit from that.
“It was also good to get the first pre-season game under the belt because match fitness is what you need, you can train all you want but you need minutes in your legs from games.
“The Gaffer (Graham Alexander) has come in and wants us to be really fit, you can see that from the work we do every day in training which will help us be ready for that first game against Wrexham. It’s been really tough, but enjoyable.”
MK Dons will face Barnet at The Hive on Saturday afternoon before commencing their pre-season training camp in Germany the Monday following. When questioned about the time the team will have in Europe, Devoy had this to say:
“I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be my first trip away with the team so I’m looking forward to it. We’re a good group and we see each other nearly every day, we’re getting really close, so it’ll be nice to have this camp together.”
