Skipper focused on points not milestones

Lewington set for 700th MK Dons game...

26 January 2019

Dean Lewington is set to play his 700th MK Dons game this afternoon but the captain isn’t focusing on milestones - only the points on offer at Blundell Park.

Lewington has been the centre of attention of late for his achievements, having recently surpassed 600 league appearances for the Dons as well.

While appreciative of the recognition, the 34-year-old is hoping he can celebrate much more than just a milestone later today.

“It's nice to get to that many games but it's just another game,” Lewington said in his pre-match press conference ahead of this afternoon’s clash with Grimsby Town.

“I much prefer to be part of the pack of the team because it’s strange when its an individual thing. I'd much rather it be about us winning, rather than my number.”

Lewington & Co will be looking to get back on track this afternoon having suffered back-to-back defeats in their last two league outings.

The captain believes turning around the form is just a case of improving on the small details.

“It's just moments in games that are not going right,” he said.

“We’ve only had one really bad game and that was Cheltenham Town. Apart from that, we've done well but we've made bad decisions at certain times and we've been punished.

“We've let leads slip, and when we've been behind, we haven’t gone about things the way we should.”
