Young Dons set for valuable run out

7 November 2016

Richie Barker views tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy tie with Norwich City has an ‘invaluable experience’ for the young players he is set to involve in the game.

MK Dons take on the Canaries at Carrow Road this evening, where caretaker boss Barker is expected to field a number of young professionals in a bid to give them more first-team exposure.

There is also the matter of table position to sort out, with a victory tonight enough for the men from MK1 to top their group and secure a home tie in the first round of the knock-out stages.

“It’s important we go there and take the game seriously,” Barker told MK Dons PlayerHD. “It’s also an opportunity for one or two of the younger players to get a chance.

“It will be a good experience but a real test for them. They are starting to learn result-orientated football, which maybe a little bit different to normal. As they come through they need to have a greater understanding of what it takes to win these games.”

“We need to keep building up their experiences. This is another different experience away at a Premier League stadium where I’m sure they’ll be amazed by who they are playing against and what they are playing on.

“The experience they are going to gain is invaluable. I’ve played in a couple of games at Carrow Road – it’s a fantastic place and it will be a lovely pitch. They’ll be playing against some very, very good players and there might be a few fans there too.

Tickets for tonight's Checkatrade Trophy tie can be bought at Carrow Road ahead of kick-off -prices are £5 adults/seniors and £1 under-18s.
