Kay embracing Championship challenge

15 March 2016

Antony Kay says the Dons are tackling the challenge of remaining in the Sky Bet Championship head on.

Kay has been in impressive form since returning to the side recently and scored a powerful header in the 1-1 draw at promotion favourites Hull City on Saturday.

“No-one has pulled out of any battle or any challenge and it's shown,” he said.

“We are where we are. We've seen it and talked about it, but now we're doing it on the training pitch and it's showing in the games.

“We're in a battle at the bottom, so coming to Hull and getting a point is really important.

“We changed the style of play away from home - we've got to be realistic because you can't out-pass a team like this and expect to get three points. Everyone has put in a real shift, it has been hard graft and we've got the reward at the end.”

“You make these runs in the box and more often than not they don't get to you, but it was a great ball in by Hally and I didn't even have to break my stride.

He added: “I'm delighted to have scored, but I'm more happy with the point. Defenders need to get their fair share of goals and I'm happy to have done that.

On his return, the experienced centre-back said: “It has just been normal, slotting back in. It shows our strength in depth. People can come in and play well, and that's just what I've done. Hopefully I can stay in there now.

“Joe came in and did really well and deserved his chance. If you come in and do well, you've got no right to lose your place. I'm back in now, but I've got to keep performing.

“I've got a lot of experience and I've been in these scraps before. I know what it takes and I can help the young lads to show them what it takes.”
Robinson's men are back in action on Saturday when they host Brighton & Hove Albion at stadiummk in the Club's Family Fun Day fixture - tickets are priced at just £12 for adults and £1 for U18s.
