Willo: Make Stadium MK a fortress

29 December 2016

George B Williams is confident MK Dons can turn Stadium MK into a fortress during the second half of the season.

The men from MK1 went 10 games without a home league victory at the start of this season before the 1-0 triumph over AFC Wimbledon ended that run.

Now, the side have a chance to make it two league successes from three at Stadium MK when they take on Swindon Town this evening – something Williams is hopeful they can do.

“We really need to make Stadium MK a fortress and I think we’re showing signs towards that,” the right-back told REDDOT.

“Not winning at home was a little bit of a monkey on the back but we couldn’t have picked a better game to get the first win - against AFC Wimbledon - which was a huge game for the fans and us.

“I was good to get that first win and that we were able to carry that on against Charlton in the FA Cup but it’s a shame we couldn’t get a win on Boxing Day.”

He added: “I played here for Barnsley and I remember it being a real tough place to come. Hopefully we’re striving towards making it like that again.”

One component to being successful at home is a tough defence and Williams believes the Dons’ backline has turned a corner after an up-and-down start.

“If you look at the last few games, we haven’t really looked like conceding. We’re doing a lot of work on the training ground based around our defensive shape and I think that’s showing on the pitch.

“That comes from the goalkeeper to the back four, right the way through the midfield to the forwards. As a team we’re looking more and more solid.”

You can read the full interview with Williams in tonight's edition of REDDOT, which will be available to buy from sellers around Stadium MK and the Box Office at a price of £3.
