Simon’s set-up helps Dons see off St. Johnstone

Simon Church helped Aberdeen to a second win the space of four days, providing an assist in their 4-3 triumph away at St. Johnstone.

The striker took advantage of some poor defending from the hosts to tee up Niall McGinn to score his second goal of the afternoon and the Dons’ third.

It was the second time in as many games Church was involved in a goal, having netted on his debut – Wednesday night’s win over Celtic.

Saturday’s victory moved Aberdeen level on points with the Bhoys at the top of the Scottish Premiership. They travel to Inverness Caledonian Thistle next Monday evening.

Also involved in action north of the border on Saturday was Lee Hodson, who made his debut for Kilmarnock in their Scottish Cup fifth-round tie with Rangers.

Lee Hodson played the full 90 minutes at right-back as Killie ground out a 0-0 draw at Ibrox and earned themselves a replay.

The two sides will go head-to-head once again on Tuesday evening in Ayrshire.

Meanwhile, Charlie Burns made his second appearance for Hayes & Yeading in their Vanarama National League South clash with Margate at York Road.

United went into the game on the back of a hard-earned draw at Hemel Hempstead Town but they were beaten 2-0 by the play-off chasing Kent club, who scored both their goals in the first half.
