MK Dons were beaten at Plough Lane in the final seconds of the match thanks to a close-range finish from Ronan Curtis.
The Dons had plenty of chances to win the match themselves, with Stephen Wearne coming agonisingly close just moments before the winner.
In a hard-fought game of half chances, the match was ultimately decided by Curtis’ close-range finish.
Mike Williamson named the same starting XI that beat Newport County 3-0 at Stadium MK last weekend.
The Dons set up for their visit to London in a 3-4-3 formation, with Alex Gilbey captaining the side in place of Dean Lewington who was serving the second game of his two-match suspension.
FIRST HALF
AFC Wimbledon had the first corner of the game after just two minutes following a well-timed Cameron Norman slide tackle, although they failed to make the most of the set-piece with a tame delivery.
Shortly afterwards Michael Kelly received an early booking for coming out of his area to tackle Omar Bugiel, AFC wasted the free-kick though with a shot that was comfortably wide.
Alex Gilbey won a corner after ten minutes, but Jack Payne’s cross was headed clear.
Joe Tomlinson sped down the wing a few minutes later, fizzing a ball into the box that ultimately failed to find any of his teammates.
Bugiel had a chance for AFC Wimbledon from close range after 22 minutes, the forward failed to control the ball though and blasted his shot way over the bar.
The Dons were finding joy on the left-hand side of the pitch as the match progressed, Alex Gilbey harried Kofi Balmer into a mistake to win another corner.
Jack Payne played a short ball to Lewis Bate, but AFC Wimbledon managed to clear their lines, Stephen Wearne was then booked just before the half-hour mark.
James Tilley had a good shooting opportunity for AFC after 32 minutes but couldn’t get his shot past Daniel Harvie who blocked from close range.
The midfielder had another shot minutes later, this time for distance, but Michael Kelly pulled off a smart save to deny him the opening goal.
The resulting corner again failed to cause the Dons any problems in defence and was well cleared by Bate.
AFC Wimbledon’s Josh Kelly was booked not long after for a nasty tackle on Cameron Norman.
The hosts had another chance at goal just before half-time but failed to make the most of a good ball into the box with a mistimed volley.
The last action of the half was a chance for the visitors, Alex Gilbey was played in by Joe Tomlinson but the Dons’ number 8 had his shot well-saved by Alex Bass.
SECOND HALF
Alex Gilbey was immediately involved after the break, latching onto Tomlinson’s ball over the top to bear down on the AFC goal before the assistant referee blew for offside.
Stephen Wearne had another chance moments later thanks to a lovely ball into the box from Kyran Lofthouse, the forward struggled to control his shot though and fired wide.
AFC Wimbledon had two corners not long afterwards but wasted both.
Daniel Harvie then received the Dons’ third yellow card of the afternoon for a rash tackle in the centre of the pitch.
Kyran Lofthouse was then booked 30 seconds later for another strong challenge.
On 62 minutes Dan Kemp found himself with space in the AFC half and made an attacking run towards the box, but his ball aiming for Tomlinson was well cleared.
Tomlinson was then brought to the ground by an AFC defender, with Alex Gilbey booked for something that was said in the aftermath.
Mike Williamson made his first change of the afternoon with 25 minutes to play, Ellis Harrison coming on for Kyran Lofthouse.
The forward almost made an instant impact after latching onto a Joe Tomlinson ball the box, but the AFC Wimbledon defence managed to clear.
The hosts had a chance with 15 minutes to play after Daniel Harvie gave away a free-kick to the right of the box, but the ball into the area was met with a tame header that floated over.
Dan Kemp had a great chance for the Dons on 77 minutes after bursting through the AFC defence, his shot from a tight angle was well saved and there was no one in a white shirt to follow it in.
The Dons again caused problems just a minute later, this time with Ellis Harrison in a dangerous position. The forward got his shot away from close range but Bass did well to save it down to his right.
Emre Tezgel was introduced with ten minutes to play, coming on for Dan Kemp.
AFC Wimbledon then had another corner but floated it harmlessly into Michael Kelly.
The hosts had a chance to break with a few minutes to play, Cameron Norman was alert to it and stopped the attack, but earned a yellow card for his troubles.
AFC had a chance to win it late on, a lofted ball from Neufville was headed against the bar by Jack Currie, with the rebound flashed wide.
John-Joe O’Toole was then booked in the first minute of stoppage time for cynically bringing Alex Gilbey down.
The Dons had a great chance with a minute to play, Ellis Harrion’s shot was spilled and fell to Stephen Wearne who fired the ball agonisingly wide of the post from an extremely tight angle.
AFC Wimbledon then won it at the death with a shot from close range. 1-0.
