The career so far of loanee Kyran Lofthouse…

9 January 2024

mkdons.com looks at the career so far of recent loanee signing Kyran Lofthouse.

Born and raised in Oxford, Lofthouse began his footballing career within Oxford United’s youth setup. It would be the same team that would award Kyran with his first-ever senior professional appearance.

During their EFL Trophy tie against Norwich City U21, former MK Dons Manager Karl Robinson substituted Kyran Lofthouse onto the field with more than 20 minutes left to play.

Within the same competition, Lofthouse would later earn his first start for Oxford under Robinson’s rule as they triumphed over Bristol Rovers in a clash that was decided by a penalty shoot-out.

At 19-years-old, the U’s defender was named amongst the bench on multiple occasions but never made a league debut.

Lofthouse earned his first career loan move to Oxford City before extending his contract at parent club United in May 2020. The defender would go on to make 15 appearances and contributed three goals during his first loan stint.

Within the 2020/21 campaign, Lofthouse would feature for Oxford United in what was the last appearance for his hometown club in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup against Watford.

The second loan move came shortly after what would be his last appearance for the U’s as the youngster joined National League side Woking.

His tenure at the Cards was extended multiple times, which would see Lofthouse represent them until the end of the season. Not long after the conclusion of this term, he would sign for Woking on a permanent basis.

The Oxford United youth prospect enjoyed most of his senior professional appearances in the National League competition for the Surrey based side as he collected a number of 103 sightings for the Cards.

During his two-year tenure with Woking, Lofthouse would also contribute a total of six goals and feature in a National League Play-Off battle against Bromley.

In July 2023, Kyran would earn a permanent transfer to his current parent Club, Barnsley.

His debut appearance for the Tykes would occur against Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Cup contest. A few days later, Lofthouse would also receive his first-ever league appearance as Barnsley faced Bristol Rovers in a League One clash.

Ahead of his third career loan transfer, Kyran would see his third feature for Barnsley in a 2-0 victory over Grimsby Town in September 2023.

Later that month, the former Woking player would temporarily move to Gateshead after Mike Williamson had sought after the defender.

Following Williamson’s departure to MK Dons, Lofthouse would continue to make 14 appearances at the Heed before reuniting with the Head Coach at Stadium MK on a loan deal until the end of the 2023/24 season.
