19 January 2024

MK Dons make their third January acquirement as young Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall puts pen to paper on a loan deal at Stadium MK. This move is subject to both League and FA clearance.

At just 20 years of age, Filip Marschall will re-join Mike Williamson and his staff for the third time during his senior career so far.

Filip’s first loan move into senior football saw the young goalkeeper gain Gateshead experience whilst under the rule of Head Coach Williamson and his staff, earning promotion from the National League North during his initial loan move from the Birmingham based side.

On loan from Premier League outfit Aston Villa, Marschall had this to say about signing terms for MK Dons:

“I’m really excited to be here, it’s a great Club and I’ve heard good things from players that have been here previously.

“I’m a goalkeeper that likes to use my feet a lot and play football, it’s been the same for me throughout my time at Aston Villa and Gateshead. I like to play out from the back, and I know Mike (Williamson), Busty (Ian Watson) and Belly (Chris Bell) like to do the same here.

“At the same time, we also can’t look away from the fact that I’m also here to make saves and be reliable. I’m hoping to bring all of that here.

“I’ve been playing senior football for a good period of time now and I’m going to try and use my experiences gained so far and my qualities to try and help the team anyway I can.”

During his progression with Aston Villa, Filip Marschall has seen FA Youth Cup success, as well as being honoured with the ‘Scholar of the Year’ title in 2018.

These accolades at a young age awarded the shot-stopper with his senior debut for the Premier League side during the EUFA Conference League competition.

Marschall debuted against Zrinjski Mostar and featured for the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw within their group stage clash.

Since then, the young goalie has appeared in 39 games for Gateshead in both the National League North and National League contests, maintaining 14 clean sheets throughout this stint.

Internationally, Filip has represented the Young Lions making two appearances at an Under-19s level before being recently called up to train with Poland’s Under-19 age group in 2021.

On the signing of Filip Marschall, MK Dons Head Coach Mike Williamson commented “Firstly, he’s a great guy to work with, and a very mature lad for such a young age.

“Both times I’ve previously signed him, I could see the improvement, and the potential he’s got. He’s a great character, great with the ball at his feet and is a physical unit too.

“He'll be dominant, and it creates a healthy competition in the squad. We’re very grateful to Aston Villa for the loan and hopefully we can repay them with the growth in him.”
