MK Dons Under-18s suffer defeat in opening PDL Cup fixture…

5 September 2023

MK Dons Under-18s suffered a 2-0 defeat in their first group stage fixture of the PDL Cup.

Due to the success of last season’s EFL Youth Alliance Cup campaign, John Bitting’s boys were place within the Premier Development Cup tournament for this season.

The team embarked in their first fixture within the competition, which saw them fall two goals behind against Oxford United at Woughton on the Green Playing Fields.

MK Dons were placed within Group G, a table mixed with competition including Oxford, Bristol City and Coventry City.

The PDL Cup is a monthly competition, which will see a fixture played at the start of each two months ahead. Young Dons will prepare to face Coventry in the next match before their final group stage tie against Bristol City.

John Bitting, Lead PDP Head Coach shared an insight into the recent cup clash “It was disappointing in terms of results, but in terms of performance I thought there were some real positives to take.

“We showed moments that were insightful to the way that we want to play as a collective, but we’ve also seen some problems which we’ll continue to work on as there’s still a lot of football to be played.

“I felt as if we dominated the game, which was a pleasing element to me. We really took control in parts of the game, but the sections that we didn’t ultimately resulted in us conceding goals rather than scoring them.

“This has presented another good learning opportunity for the boys through playing an unfamiliar opposition, and in a different format of competition too.”
