Chris Lucketti was full of praise for MK Dons’ performance in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy success over Oxford United.

The Dons made it two wins from two in the competition courtesy of a 1-0 victory at the Kassam Stadium – Jack Payne’s second-half penalty proving the difference in a tie that was dominated by the visiting side.

Reflecting on a positive night’s work, Assistant Head Coach Lucketti told the media: “We can't ask for more – it was an outstanding performance from lads who have not had a lot of game time.

“I said before the game it was a chance to stake their claim, and every player who went on the pitch tonight has given the gaffer a headache.

“We showed a lot of commitment, a lot of energy, and everyone was fighting for every ball - the majority of the time, we came out on top in that regard.

“That's testament to the lads who came in, everyone wants to play in this team and that's exactly what we need.”

Lucketti added: “The clean sheet is long overdue. To be successful, you have to keep a lot of clean sheets because you cannot expect to have to score three or four in every game. It's important to keep clean sheets, and tonight is a good start towards that.”

MK Dons turn their attention back to Sky Bet League Two on Saturday as they take on Sutton United at the VBS Community Stadium.
