Gilbey: Ruthlessness is needed

MK Dons Captain Alex Gilbey shared his thoughts following the trip to the Mornflake Stadium…

Alex Gilbey shared his thoughts after MK Dons suffered their second defeat of the season whilst at the Mornflake Stadium.

A dominant first-half display saw Graham Alexander’s team take the lead in the eighth minute of the Sky Bet League Two fixture.

However, the contrasting second 45-minute performance saw the Dons suffer a 3-1 defeat to the hands of Crewe Alexandra at the Mornflake Stadium. In-turn, this resulted in the travelling team falling out of the league leader position.

“It’s unacceptable” Gilbey said when discussing the defeat. “We started really well, and for the first 25 minutes, it was the best we've looked all season. We were getting the ball down, playing our football but also turning them.

“This isn't the first time this has happened - it has happened three times now. It's something we have to change ASAP and get to the bottom of.

“The opposition will always make tweaks at half-time, but we cannot rely on the manager or Chris to spoon-feed us information. We've got 11 men out there who see things as footballers, and we have to do something out on the pitch.

“It's a cliche but we have to go back to the drawing board, it's not acceptable.”

The midfielder added “We’ve got to see off teams when we've got them like that.

“Crewe are a good side, we didn't come here and think they would roll over. But when we've got them where we want them, we have to be more ruthless.

“We've all done sloppy things to give goals away, but as a collective we all have to address those second-half performances because it's not good enough.”
