Don Deal: Ellis Harrison heads to MK Dons

Striker arrives on Deadline Day from Port Vale...

1 September 2023

MK Dons have completed the signing of Port Vale striker Ellis Harrison.

Harrison, 29, joins the Football Club for an undisclosed fee from the Sky Bet League One outfit and becomes the Club’s tenth addition of the summer transfer window. The deal is subject to EFL and FA clearance.

A physical centre-forward, Harrison has totalled 363 career appearances with the majority of those coming in English football’s third tier with clubs such as Bristol Rovers, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Fleetwood Town and, most recently, Port Vale.

Harrison has scored 87 career goals and been credited with 29 assists while he was also a two-time promotion winner during his time with Bristol Rovers, including out of League Two in the 2015/16 campaign.

“I’m delighted to be here,” Harrison told mkdons.com. “This is a move I have wanted to get done so I’m pleased it’s sorted and I can’t wait to meet up with the team and get going.

“This is a good Football Club who I have always admired from playing against them over the years. The manager is extremely experienced and I am looking forward to working under him here at MK Dons.

“The team has made a great start to the season and I hope to do my best to help maintain that and ensure we can have a successful year.”

Born in South Wales, Harrison began his career with Bristol Rovers, making his professional debut in a League One clash with Southampton in April 2011. He spent the next seven years at the Memorial Stadium, scoring 49 goals in 204 games and helping the Pirates win promotions from the National League and League Two.

Harrison made a switch to Ipswich Town in July 2018 and spent one season at Portman Road before moving to Portsmouth - the striker scored 20 goals in 84 games during a two-and-a-half-year spell with Pompey.

In January 2022, Fleetwood Town swooped for Harrison’s services and he helped them avoid relegation from Sky Bet League One during the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, finding the net six times in 18 appearances.

Harrison signed a new deal with Fleetwood last summer but made a move to newly-promoted Port Vale in August. He scored his first Valiants goal against MK Dons that same month and finished last term having found the net 11 times.
