Alexander: Architects of our own downfall

Head Coach Graham Alexander reflects on his side's 3-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra at the Mornflake Stadium...

Graham Alexander believed his MK Dons side were the ‘architects of their own downfall’ in Saturday’s defeat to Crewe Alexandra.

Despite taking a seventh-minute lead at the Mornflake Stadium, Alexander’s men were beaten 3-1 by the Railwaymen at the Mornflake Stadium - their first league loss in three and a result which saw them relinquish top spot in Sky Bet League Two.

“I thought we were the architects of our own downfall,” the MK Dons Head Coach said in his post-match press conference.

“We were by far the better team in the first-half but we have to be ruthless when we're on top so strongly and extend our lead.

“We told the players at half-time one was not enough, we couldn't sit back. We know we've got an attacking threat and high energy levels when we play our football, but the energy level dropped in the second-half and we got punished for it.

“I've seen the goals back and we're not committing to what we're doing. We have to address it and correct it because it's hurting us.

“It's easy to say things in a meeting room, but taking it onto the pitch is where we are hurting ourselves. We have to correct that quickly, because when you look at that first-half, we should have gone on to win the game.”
