Mike Williamson is looking forward to his Stadium MK bow this evening, as he prepares to take charge of his first home match as MK Dons Head Coach.

Williamson began his reign exactly a week ago and, tonight, will lead the Dons out at Stadium MK for the first time – and he will, no doubt, want to mark the occasion with a victory in front of the home supporters.

“We're at home and I'm looking forward to meeting the fans here and experiencing a home game for the first time,” Williamson said in his pre-match press conference.

“I hope we can meet more of the fans, after seeing the travelling support on Saturday, and I hope we can put in more of a complete performance for them.”

Williamson saw positives from his side’s display against Accrington Stanley at the weekend, despite the home side coming out on top in a tight 1-0 affair at the Wham Stadium.

Reflecting on the game and the progress he hopes to see from his team as a result, the Head Coach said: “You could feel the weight and frustration in the dressing room after (Accrington) and that's not just about losing one game, that's an accumulation.

“(Accrington) is one of the toughest opponents you can face when you're just starting to implement a style of play - on a small pitch, against a team with high intensity, who know how to get in your face.

“In that environment, with those pressures, I was pleased with the bravery we showed and the way we tried to play. We had some good moments, but now it's up to me to show them why we're getting on the ball, and how to use it and how to dominate territory.”

Williamson continued: “As we move forward, I hope to see incremental improvements and us continuing to move in the right direction.

“I have no doubts we've got the talent in the dressing room to be climbing the table and to challenge where we feel the club should be challenging – that’s trying to get out of the league. But, it will need work in the theatre room and on the training ground.

“We have to understand the players, what sort of learners they are and what they need to learn. We have to learn their strengths in the right positions, and then play to those strengths.

“The lads must understand how we want to play – and that's on me - and then we've got to get the details into them as best we can. We've got such a receptive group, it's there for us, but it will take time.”
