Williamson: Players deserve the praise

Head Coach Mike Williamson reflects on his side's 3-2 victory over Swindon Town at Stadium MK...

Mike Williamson, once again, directed the praise onto his players after MK Dons’ 3-2 victory over Swindon Town.

Williamson’s men made it back-to-back wins in Sky Bet League Two after their triumph over the Robins in an eventful Stadium MK affair.

Max Dean put the Dons ahead in the first half before Swindon substitute Jake Young levelled the scores early in the second. Warren O’Hora restored the lead with 66 minutes played, though it was a deflected cross from Alex Gilbey which proved crucial, given Frazer Blake-Tracy’s stoppage-time header for the visitors.

“I'm happy with the result,” Williamson said in his post-match press conference. “Two wins on the bounce is fantastic, and the lads deserve a lot of credit for it.

“Again, I feel similar to Tuesday, where it's the raw talent and desire of the lads which has got us the win today.

“There were still a lot of things I saw, from a structural point of view, which we can look at and improve on. There is so much work we've got to get into them on the training ground, in and out of possession.

“(Swindon) are a lot further along their journey than we are. They made it hard for us out of possession and, in the first-half, we were so desperate to win the ball back, our decision making was sometimes debatable.

“But, I just keep reflecting on the talent we have in the dressing room and their determination to fight is what is carrying us through at the moment. I liked the intensity and we've just got to refine this big ball of energy that is the group and keep making progress.

“There have been some phenomenal performances, really brave ones. We have to keep working with them to help them understand what we want.”

Williamson has a clear week to work with his players ahead of the upcoming Emirates FA Cup tie with Reading and a further seven days before his side next to take to the pitch in league action.

The new Dons Head Coach is relishing the opportunity to spend quality time on the training ground.

“We're writing a list of things we want to achieve in this next week, and putting together a plan for training to the finest details.

“There are a lot of layers we want to put into them. First, we're giving them Sunday and Monday off because of the heavy load and the schedule being so tough - they deserve it. That will be a bit of decompression time for them before coming in on Tuesday and we will then work hard.

“Hopefully, when we get a few more hours into them, we'll see more structure and detail and I'm looking forward to some of that this week.”

Williamson also had a final message to the MK Dons supporters for their backing at Stadium MK last week.

“The fans have been brilliant,” he commented. “They are the club, the bedrock of it, and I'm just lucky enough to come here to try and help the club and do everything I can to guide us to where the club should be.

“You could hear (the fans) throughout today and on Tuesday, and even when we conceded late on today, you could still hear them trying to get the lads through it.”
