Tomlinson: Get one over the line and the rest will follow

Defender Joe Tomlinson looks ahead to this weekend's Sky Bet League Two clash with Gillingham at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium...

Joe Tomlinson has settled in well to life at Stadium MK but the young full-back is eager to help MK Dons return to winning ways and climb back up the Sky Bet League Two table.

Tomlinson joined the Dons on Deadline Day, completing a move from Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee. He made his debut just over 24 hours later and has since totalled seven appearances in an MK Dons shirt, including four from the start.

The 23-year-old will want to feature again on Saturday, when he and his teammates travel to the MEMS Priestfield Stadium to take on Gillingham. Tomlinson hopes to mark the occasion with three points.

“I've enjoyed it so far,” said in. “It has been nice to have this run of games, I'm feeling good, feeling fit and hopefully I can play as many games as I can.

“We know, results-wise, it's not been good enough for this club - we're not blind to that. It’s frustrating but we're feeling good as a team because we've been playing better - we just need to get one over the line and then I’m sure more will follow.

“(Gillingham) have had a good start to the season. They're tough and well organised but we know what we can do and we know we can go there, dominate and get the three points.

“It is a tough place to go, but if we go there and play the way we know we can, I have no doubts we'll come away with the win. I have full confidence we can get three points.”

One area in which Tomlinson want to contribute at the weekend is by getting himself on the scoresheet – something the defender is looking to do for the first time in an MK Dons shirt.

“It's a big part of my game - I love scoring goals as much as I love stopping them,” he commented. “I want to add goals and assists this season.

“I've been frustrated not to have scored one yet but there is one coming soon, and hopefully more than one! I'm trying to get in the right areas, and when one does, hopefully they’ll come like London buses.”
