MK Dons Women are in the hat for the next County Cup round…

17 October 2023

MK Dons Women’s triumphant six-goal victory over Long Crendon has secured their name in the hat for the third-round of the FA Berks & Bucks County Cup competition.

Lifting the trophy last season has only seemed to inspire Charlie Bill’s Women to reach the same objective once again, which has kickstarted their brilliant beginning to the County Cup competition.

Joining the tournament within the second round, MK Dons Women produced an impressive performance to defeat Long Crendon by a six-goal margin whilst also sustaining a clean sheet throughout the tie.

The home side had put up a good fight throughout the first half of action, and although the Dons looked threatening going forward the travelling team were yet to break deadlock.

That was until moments before the interval when Jacovides opened the scoring within the last minute of added injury time. A scramble in the box presented the opportunity for the player, whose anticipation allowed her to stab the ball home from close-range. 0-1

The hosts were kept at an arm’s length throughout most of the first-half, but that would soon change within the second 45 minutes of action yet to occur.

Scoring before the break proved uplifting for Charlie Bill’s Women, who carried that positivity into the next stage of the game before doubling their lead soon after the restart.

Zoe Creaney’s positional awareness granted her the opportunity to provide MK Dons with their second of the match. A precise delivery into Crendon’s penalty area located Creaney, who directed the ball home with a headed attempt at goal. 0-2

Lily Dolling then soon increased the advantage to three nil just four minutes later. A delicate yet accurate finish was all that was needed from the young forward to beat the visitor’s shot-stopper.

Whilst facing the disappointment of trailing to a three-goal deficit, Long Crendon suffered further disappointment when a mistake, costly of on an own goal, led to number four for the match so far. 0-4

MK Dons didn’t let up and continued to be ruthless in their approach, which presented Lucy Wood with a chance to score her first goal since returning from a long-term injury

This was an opportunity that the attacker grasped with both hands. Wood had faced and beaten her marker before she found her-self in a one-on-one situation. Full of composure, Wood had slotted her chance past the onrushing goalkeeper and the away team led five goals to nil.

To add insult to injury, Long Crendon had to endure the agonizing feeling of conceding their second own goal of the cup tie.

Oppositely, much to the Dons’ delight, the away side managed to see their sixth and final goal of the fixture, which resulted in a triumphant 6-0 victory at Long Crendon Recreational Ground.

Charlie Bill’s Women were also rewarded with the progression into round three of the FA Berks & Bucks County Cup competition.
