MK Dons Women produce a stunning six-goal score-line…

2 October 2023

MK Dons Women ease into the second round of the FAWNL Cup competition following a stunning six-goal victory on the road.

Charlie Bill’s Women prepared to face an unfamiliar opponent in Cambridge City during the previous weekend of fixtures. Although the two sides had not met previously, the team didn’t deter from their pre-match training routine.

City compete within the division below MK Dons, but the unchanged mindset of the squad paid dividends in their six-goal success within the second stage of the tournament.

FIRST-HALF
The travelling team had broken the seals of the deadlock just two minutes after the starting whistle. Gemma Biggadike was the first name on the scoresheet after she pounced on a scramble within the area before the effort unleashed by the midfielder crashed into the roof of the net. 0-1

Laura Mitchell looked to net her sixth of the season, only to be thwarted by the post on the 10-minute mark. However, Lily Dolling’s decisive positioning allowed the young forward to react on the rebound, which double the Dons’ advantage on the ten-minute mark. 0-2

Dolling didn’t take long to be amidst the action once again as the number 18 was awarded with a penalty following a foul in Cambridge City’s box. Although her earlier effort was denied, Mitchell made no mistake as she converted the spot-kick. 0-3

Just 20 minutes into the tie, Charlie Bill’s Women produced a three-goal advantage. A ruthless showing thus far from the travelling team.

Yet, the first 45 minutes of action concluded when MK Dons netted their fourth of the half through Amy McLean. The referee signalled for the interval as MK Dons sustained their four-goal lead.

SECOND-HALF
Much like the opening of the game, Dons Women controlled the early stages of the second-half, which saw another effort from McLean come close as her brace was denied by the crossbar.

25 Minutes into the second stage of the fixture, Dolling’s double increased the score-line to 5-0. The number 18 found the bottom corner of the net after she saw her opportunity arise from close-range.

Laura Mitchell soon joined Lily Dolling as both players left the field with two goals to their name. Mitchell replicated a brace just minutes after Dolling, which rounded off the scoring as Charlie Bill’s Women stood proudly with their six-goal lead. 0-6

An impressive display from the Dons Women, who progressed into the second-round of the FAWNL Cup competition following a stunning six-goal success at The New Croft Sports Ground.
