MK Dons Women prepare to face Cardiff City in their upcoming FAWNL League clash…

20 October 2023

Following their success within the County Cup competition, MK Dons Women will now return their focus back to the league campaign as they prepare for a trip to Wales on Sunday afternoon.

Cardiff City currently place ninth within the FAWNL Southern Premier Division table, eight points behind Charlie Bill’s Women, who occupy a top-five spot.

Prior to their County Cup tie, the Dons had been tested against the league leaders in back-to-back league fixtures, which saw the Milton Keynes side best the top-of-the-table opposition at both times of asking.

The upcoming fixture against Cardiff City will be played at the Ocean Park Arena, Cardiff, CF24 5HF.

THE OPPOSITION
Cardiff have claimed six points from one victory and three stalemates so far this season, which also sees the joint-highest draws gathered so far. The home side’s only league success came through a triumphant 4-0 win over London Bees.

The Bluebirds haven’t seen the best of results in the league, but their FAWNL Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle recently is an indication that Sunday will be no simple matchup.

LAST TIME OUT
MK Dons Women secured their spot in the quarter-final of the FA Berks & Bucks County Cup competition following a 6-0 victory over Long Crendon.

Jacovides opened the Dons’ account before Creaney doubled their lead early within the second-half. Lily Dolling then took advantage of the momentum gained to increase the score-line to 3-0.

Crendon then faced further self-inflicted setbacks when two own-goals scored by the hosts snuffed out any spark of a comeback within the cup tie. Lucy Wood was the final goal scorer in an MK Dons shirt, which capped off a remarkable 6-0 win away from home.

Cardiff City drew 1-1 against Chatham Town, who currently sit one position above last place in the table. This accumulated a three-game unbeaten streak for the Welsh side, who will be determined to continue that run come Sunday afternoon.
