Chloe Sansom on the first MK Dons Women's Player of the Year Award

MK Dons Women Captain discusses her 2022/23 Player of the Year honour…

5 May 2023

Chloe Sansom, who captains the MK Dons Women, shared her thoughts after she achieved the 2022/23 Women’s Player of the Year Award for the first time in club history.

Sansom has led the Women’s team through 29 of their fixtures this season, which has seen the team achieve their current highest finish within the FAWNL Southern Premier Division, as well as claiming victory within the Berks & Bucks County Cup competition.

The shot-stopper has prevented the opposition from locating the back of her net within seven matches during the current campaign, but the honour was awarded not only for her performances, but also for her leadership capabilities on and off the field.

“I’m really honoured to pick up this award for the first time, it’s a real credit to us as a group to align ourselves with the men’s team and share the night with them. It’s really special to play football here, especially at Stadium MK, which is a luxury for us that we don’t take for granted.

“The Women’s game is on the up and as a team I think we are on that journey and that pathway to get to the top of it. We set ourselves targets as we always do at the beginning of the season and we aimed to reach the top five, to be able to achieve that alongside the County Cup has been brilliant. It’s something that we can build on for next season.”

Sansom saw six months on the side-lines at the start of the 2021/22 campaign. Despite the adversity, the shot-stopper came back to the field stronger and supported the Woman throughout this season’s journey. When questioned on her personal achievement, Chloe had this to say:

“On a personal level it has been great, it was tough to build my way back up into the squad, but this has been my first full season with them, and I’m really honoured to pick up this award.

“It’s not just me though, we’re such a tight-knit group and it is a family. That’s what we pride ourselves on. That sort of group helps you from step to step because it’s special when you have that family feel through the highs and the lows. We’re all really looking forward to next season.”
