Watson: Action is results

Tennai Watson shared his thoughts ahead of the Cambridge clash at Stadium MK…

10 March 2023

MK Dons defender Tennai Watson spoke with the media surrounding the importance of the upcoming Sky Bet League One fixture against Cambridge United.

Mark Jackson’s men prepare to face fellow current relegation candidate Cambridge, in what could be a pivotal fixture for both teams’ desires to escape the drop zone.

The Amber army have amounted the same number of points as the Dons, but a plus-six goal difference in the home side’s favour currently separates the two teams that occupy 22 and 23 in the league, respectively.

The opening match of the 2022/23 campaign saw these two groups collide at the Abbey Stadium, which concluded in a 1-0 defeat for MK Dons, who now seek to flip their fortunes around within the return fixture at Stadium MK.

Questioned ahead of the battle to possibly ascend from the bottom four, Watson said “A result on Saturday would be a huge morale boost for everybody.

“I want to sit here and say that we’re all chomping at the bit and we’re all playing out of our skin for the fans, but that’s like singing the same song. No-one wants to hear that until it’s done, which is fair, and matchday is where that matters most.

“It’s obvious we haven’t been good enough, and looking back at that, reflecting and moving forwards is the aim for all of us. Action is results, and that needs to be our next step.”

Ahead of Saturday, MK Dons have only conjured a total of ten points at home whilst Cambridge have currently earned eight points on the road, which is on par with Morecambe for the worst away record this season.

The number two added to his honest assessment by saying “There has to be a point where you change the atmosphere of when the next blow is coming.

“It’s a hard pill to swallow, but that’s the harsh reality of life. You have a job to do, and if it’s not being done, you have to take that criticism.

“But we’re a team – whether it’s a goal we concede or chances we score, we’re doing it together. People don’t want to hear the same cliches, but as a group all we can do is work hard and stick together.”
