MK Dons Women suffer defeat at home…

28 March 2023

Watford Women’s strong display earns the travelling team all three points within the FAWNL Southern Premier Division clash at Stadium MK.

Following their recent County Cup success, where Charlie Bill’s Women were crowned champions after a 3-0 victory in the final, the Dons returned home in the hopes to secure two consecutive Stadium MK victories.

The previous encounter at the home of MK Dons saw a record attendance for a Women’s fixture, which was further complimented by a 3-1 victory over Crawley Wasps.

Although, this time, the desire to replicate a winning result was snuffed out early on within the tie as Watford were rapid to get on top of the home side.

An early goal for the Hornets seemed to rapidly inspire them whilst a big blow was dealt to MK Dons, who were taken back by the early opener. This quick lead was increased shortly after.

Watford didn’t let up on their attacking approach and punished a vulnerable Dons side, who were stunned by a 0-5 score-line when the teams were signalled for the break.

However, the second half provided a much-improved display from the Stadium MK side, who shut out Watford’s further advances. Although, their struggle to find the net at the other end of the field resulted in a 0-5 defeat at the end of 90 minutes played.

When questioned by CWSportRadio on the gruelling defeat, Charlie Bill had this to say:

“It was quite an embarrassing first half display from us, it wasn’t an MK Dons performance that was shown. Sometimes conceding an early goal like we did can shift the game and good teams will use that to punish you, so we need to work on getting around one another and reacting to them setbacks.

“It’s not an acceptable defeat, it wasn’t good enough for the fans who came and watched today especially with that first half showing. There was a reaction from the second half, which was much better. We just need to start like that especially against strong sides.

“Throughout the game there was still a lot of noise and there was still a lot of support getting behind the group because they could see their reaction within the second 45 minutes.

“I know this team, and I know that they will get around each other so that we can go again on Tuesday to prepare right for Sunday’s fixture against Bridgewater United.

“When we have games here especially at this fantastic facility, we need to show our best version of ourselves. We didn’t today, but there is no need for me to hammer the squad as it has been a very successful campaign so far. We just need to regroup and reflect.”
