An open letter from Sporting Director Liam Sweeting to the MK Dons supporters...

Dear Dons Supporters,

This weekend sees the return of Family Fun Day at Stadium MK as we take on Cambridge United in what is clearly a very important fixture. The Marshall Arena will be open at 12.30pm with football games and activities from local businesses, as well as the popular Young Dons Zone moving into the arena. This fixture will also show our support for the #HerGameToo campaign as we proudly celebrate our female supporters, the women who work for MK Dons and of course, our Women’s team, who will be in the Arena on Saturday holding a signing session ahead of kick-off.

Our Club is unique, there is no doubt about that – how we got to be here, our structure, our home, our youth, our style, all these things make us different to so many of our rivals. Crucially, though, the foundations of our best moments have been built on the connection each group has formed with our supporters.

This year, we accept it has not been good enough. We have not produced consistent performances or achieved enough results. We hear your concerns and feel your pain, anger and frustrations as this campaign has been well below the standard we expected. At the end of the season there will be time for us to review and reflect, and further opportunity to improve things on and off the pitch. I am not shirking this responsibility, nor will any of our Leadership team.

Right now, though, we are in a fight, and we need to fight together. We have 11 matches remaining, with 33 points to play for. We know we have to perform for you, and the backing the boys receive from our fans will make a huge difference. We hope to have our captain, Dean Lewington, back in the squad very soon, as well as Anthony Stewart who is getting closer to a return. These guys have been here before and will be a huge boost to our group.

Saturday is a big game, we all know that. We will need to show resilience, determination and quality to get us out of this position. Jacko has been unwavering in his mentality and determination to fight. He joined us in the toughest of circumstances and continues to show the character and leadership we will need until the end.

We’re asking Jacko and our players to go and fight, so let’s stick together and join them with the same mentality.

Come on you MK Dons!

Liam Sweeting
