Leko's perfect apology

Jonathan Leko on his return to the side and Saturday's winning goal...

Jonathan Leko provided the perfect apology for his three-match suspension when he struck the winning goal in Saturday’s crucial 1-0 victory over Morecambe at Stadium MK.

Leko had missed the previous three games following an incident in the 1-1 draw with Lincoln City which was retrospectively punished by the FA, but the forward returned to the starting XI against the Shrimps and rewarded his Head Coach’s faith by netting the winning goal just before the hour.

“I'm happy to be back in and happy to win,” Leko told the media afterwards. “I'm glad to be back out there helping the team on the pitch.

“It was hard to watch from the sidelines. I was frustrated but it was my fault, I shouldn't have kicked out. I'm really proud of the lads for the last few games - we've won, we’ve kept clean sheets and today was another good day.

“I wasn't sure if I could come straight back in but thankfully, the gaffer has put me straight back in. Hopefully I've repaid him with the goal.

“I thought I'd missed to be honest, but I'm happy it went in. It was closer than the Wednesday goal! I'll take ten of those over the goal in Sheffield. I have to get into those positions more, and if I do I'll get more goals.”

Saturday’s victory was the Dons’ third in succession and it lifted them up to 19th in the Sky Bet League One table, four points clear of the bottom four.

Reflecting on the run of form, Leko said: “Everyone's happier, and smiling. We'll keep enjoying he wins but won't get too far ahead of ourselves.

“The boys have been brilliant, but we've got to keep going and we can't get too carried away. We’ll focus now on beating Wycombe next week.”

And finally, a message of thanks to the supporters for their continued backing: “The fans were great, especially at the end when we went around, screaming my name. They were great.”
