The career of MK Dons’ new defender Cameron Norman…

16 June 2023

mkdons.com takes a look at the career of new full-back defender, Cameron Norman…

Born in Norwich, Norman joined the Canaries’ Academy from the age of ten-years-old. The Norwich City youth player would soon find himself as an Under-18s scholar before signing his first professional contract with the club, which would see him feature for the Under-21s squad within the Premier League Professional Development Division.

During his time as a young Canary, the defender played his part as Norwich lifted the FA Youth Cup - a competition they hadn’t won in 30 years.

Whilst representing his hometown team, Cameron experienced senior football while on loan at National League side Woking. He would make his professional debut against Kidderminster Harriers a couple days after the deal was signed.

During his time with Woking in the 2015/16 season, the full-back registered his first-ever senior goal against Forest Green Rovers to secure a 2-1 victory and made 27 appearances. Following the conclusion of his time with Woking, which saw the Cards place 12th, Norman left Norwich City as his contract reached its expiration.

This departure saw the defender head to non-league football for spells with four separate clubs - Norwich United, Concord Rangers, Needham Market and King’s Lynn Town. Norman made a total of 81 appearances throughout his non-league stint before a transfer to Sky Bet League One outfit, Oxford United in May 2018.

Norman’s move to Oxfordshire saw him make his first appearance within the EFL, which occurred during a League One fixture against Accrington Stanley. However, he had made his U’s debut a week prior, during an EFL Cup tie victory over Coventry City.

Norman would then take to the field six more times for Oxford United before moving to Walsall during the 2019 January transfer window.

The full-back’s move to the Saddlers would, to this point, see him conjure the most appearances for a club within his senior playing career, featuring in 62 games in total for the Midlands outfit.

Norman would also re-live a proud moment against a familiar foe - he netted his first Walsall goal against Forest Green Rovers, replicating the feat of scoring his first senior goal against the same opponent, during his time with Woking.

June 2021 saw the young defender sign a two-year deal with Newport County. In two years with the Exiles, Norman would reach the 100-game milestone.

Norman was awarded with Newport’s Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year last season, recognised for his consistent and impressive performances.

Norman scored six goals, and contributed nine assists, during his time at Newport, whilst also being the most fouled player within the league during the most recent campaign.

At the expiration of his two-year contract, Norman will now look to embark on a new journey at Stadium MK, agreeing a deal to join MK Dons and become Graham Alexander’s second summer addition.
