Lionesses announce squad for Stadium MK clash

England have announced the squad which will be heading to Stadium MK for the Arnold Clark Cup.

Four of the world’s top 20 teams will be battling it out for the Arnold Clark Cup this month, including defending champions, and UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 winners, England who will be joined by Italy, Belgium and Korea Republic in a round-robin tournament.

There will be a double header at Stadium MK on Thursday 16 February, which will see each nation play at the home of MK Dons. Italy and Belgium kick things off at 4.45pm before England and Korea Republic face off under the lights from 7.45pm.

Sarina Wiegman has announced her England squad for the tournament, with EURO 2022 winner, and Milton Keynes local, Leah Williamson among the players who could feature at Stadium MK in the first of their three matches.

Much of the EURO 2022 winners remain in the squad, including Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh. Stanway and Walsh maintain their places following moves to Europe in the off season but there is no place in Weigman’s side for Jordan Nobbs of Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur’s Beth England.

On the other hand, the Lionesses will welcome 22-year-old Emily Ramsey, who earns her second call up to the senior national team, while Laura Coombs of Manchester City also returns to the squad for the first time since 2020.

England squad for Arnold Clark Cup:

Goalkeepers: Mary Earps, Sandy MacIver, Emily Ramsey, Ellie Roebuck.

Defenders: Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Rachel Daly, Alex Greenwood, Maya Le Tissier, Leah Williamson, Lotte Wubben-Moy.

Midfielders: Laura Coombs, Fran Kirby, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone, Keira Walsh, Katie Zelem.

Forwards: Lauren Hemp, Lauren James, Chloe Kelly, Jessica Park, Alessia Russo, Katie Robinson, Ebony Salmon.
