Jonathan Leko says, collectively, MK Dons need to find ways to defend their goal better in order to avoid games like their last two.
The Dons were beaten 5-0 and 5-2 by promotion-chasing Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday last week – the same amount of goals that they had conceded, combined, across their eight previous matches.
“As a team we need to defend better,” Leko told the media after last Saturday’s loss at Hillsborough Stadium.
“That’s not just the back four but that’s as a frontline, in the midfield and at the back. We need to find ways to defend better because we can’t concede 10 goals two games – that’s not good enough, from all of us.”
The winger added: “We need to look back at the games and find ways to stop conceding goals but we also need to forget about it and focus on sticking together and improving in the next game.”
Leko scored his first MK Dons goal in the 5-2 reverse to Sheffield Wednesday – an excellent long-range strike into the top right-hand corner, which gave his team a lead less than three minutes into the contest.
Reflecting on the goal, he said: “I’m happy to score my first goal. I just went past the centre back and I saw the goal open up.
“My last couple of shots have been going over the bar so I have just been focusing on getting shots on target. Thankfully this one went in and I’m pleased.”
