Cumming: Massive games ahead

Jamie Cumming reflected on the Ipswich Town defeat…

27 February 2023

MK Dons goalkeeper Jamie Cumming comments on the Ipswich Town defeat at Stadium MK, as well as looking ahead to the upcoming ‘season defining’ fixtures.

Mark Jackson’s men suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Tractor Boys, which made up the third consecutive loss against an opponent that currently occupy the top four positions within the Sky Bet League One table.

Samy Morsy’s strike on the 26-minute mark inevitably separated the two sides at the full-time whistle. “It’s a frustrating game.” Jamie Cumming said “If we took those chances early on, it might have looked different.

“Good teams punish you and we found that out in the last three games. However, compared to the last two matches, the performance was better and there are positives we can take going forward.”

Prior to Ipswich’ opener, the Dons crafted a plethora of chances that saw four shots on target in a matter of seconds. However, last-ditch defending from the travelling team withstood the multiple close-range attempts at goal.

When questioned on the goalmouth scramble, Cumming commented “It was ridiculous, and it summed up the game. We need those chances to go in and I’m sure on another day they will.

“Last week we were too easy to score against and not many of us have had weeks like that. I’ve certainly not conceded ten goals in two games before, it’s not something you want, and it was a tough one to take.” The goalkeeper added as he reflected on the previous three defeats.

“We’ve shown signs of improvement within this game, but we need to be more clinical at the top end of the pitch.”

The recent results have placed MK Dons 22 in the table, two points adrift safety. When asked about the upcoming fixtures, the number one replied “The next few games are massive for us.

“We’re playing teams in and around us, so we’ve got to start picking up points. It will define our season. Every game is massive now, we’ve got to stop talking about it and start delivering, especially at home.

“We all believe we can get out of it - we know we’ve got quality in the dressing room. You saw Burton put together a few wins and all of a sudden it looks so much better for them, there’s no reason why we can’t do the same.”
