Robson: Working as hard as I can

Midfielder Ethan Robson discusses his start to the season and Saturday's clash with Colchester United...

Ethan Robson has been ever-present in Graham Alexander’s starting XI so far this league campaign and the midfielder is motivated to continue performing in the heart of the MK Dons midfield.

Robson was limited to just eight league starts during the 2022/23 season but, after impressing in pre-season, the 26-year-old has earned himself consecutive starts in each of the first three league matches of the campaign.

Not willing to rest on his laurels, Robson wants to continue performing and helping MK Dons maintain their strong start to life in Sky Bet League Two.

“On a personal note, I just want to work as hard as I can to stay in the team and impress the manager, and get as many games as I can for the club,” the ex-Sunderland and Blackpool man said in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s trip to Colchester United.

“Coming into pre-season, I wanted to get a good one under my belt. I worked extremely hard and I'm starting to see the benefits of it.

“Last season was tough but that's just part and parcel of football. There will be ups and down along your journey, but it's how you react to the downs is the most important thing. You know you'll have sticky patches but you have to know you'll come out the other side.

“During spells like that, you have to reflect on your own game - what you can improve and do better. You just have to get through those spells and make sure you come back out on top.”

Robson was involved in Tuesday’s defeat to Crawley Town – the Dons’ first in the league this season. Looking ahead to Saturday’s trip to Colchester United, and the opportunity to bounce back, the midfielder said: “We were really disappointed with the result because we wanted to keep our winning form up.

“We just weren't up to par but we've got a game on Saturday, and if we can put in a good performance, hopefully we can bounce back.”
