Young Dons suffer season opening defeat…

7 August 2023

MK Dons Under-18s suffer defeat on the road against last season’s top-of-the-table opponents, Luton Town.

John Bitting’s boys suffered a 6-0 defeat against Luton in the first fixture of the 2023/24 campaign.

A setback at the start of the season, but the young Dons will look to bounce back in their League Cup campaign, which will see them face AFC Wimbledon at home on Saturday 12 Aug.

Lead PDP Head Coach John Bitting shared his thoughts following the season opener:

“There was a period of the game where we were competitive, but we then lacked control once we got on the ball. It was a competitive start, which saw us 0-0 at half-time.

“Just after the hour mark we conceded three goals within ten minutes, so we found ourselves behind within a short space of time. We also went down to ten men which put us in a really difficult position.

“We suffered a 6-0 defeat, but until the last 30 minutes of the match we were quite effective. We were disciplined, the structure was good, but we then lost our way completely when we went down to ten men. This led to us conceding a number of similar goals.

“It was disappointing, but there were some positives we can take from today in terms of individual performances throughout periods of the game.

“We have AFC Wimbledon next week, which will be another tough game. Hopefully, this is a bit of a wake-up call for some of the players, who will now realise what it’s like at an Under-18’s level with how clinical teams can be within this league.”
