O'Hora: A positive start

Defender Warren O'Hora reflects after MK Dons made it four wins from five against Doncaster Rovers...

28 August 2023

Warren O’Hora is pleased with MK Dons’ points return after the first month of the Sky Bet League Two season but knows there is still plenty of room for improvement.

The Dons have taken 12 points from a possible 15 available to start the 2023/24 campaign – a total which has them top of the Sky Bet League Two table as August draws to a close.

While delighted with the start, O’Hora knows it is just that – a start – and believes there is much more to come from him and his teammates.

“We've started really well,” the Irishman said when speaking to the media after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers. “We had a bump in the road against Crawley (Town) but we've dug deep and we're winning games - four out of five and 12 points from 15.

“You can see how hard we're working on the pitch - we're on our hands and knees at the end because we want to win that much. Every player wants to win, that's what we're here for.

“Now we have to press on. We've got things we can work on, and that's what we'll do. We've got room to improve, and that's a positive.”

O’Hora’s 33rd-minute header – his first goal of the season – proved the difference against Doncaster Rovers, as the Dons edged out their Yorkshire opponents at Stadium MK.

Reflecting on the game, the centre-back said: “Winning the game was what we set out to do and we’ve done that. You can't get much better than that – other than with a clean sheet.

“We’re a bit disappointed with the goal we conceded at the start of the second-half - we gave him too much space to cut inside. I think they hit the post from a tight angle, and Macca (Craig MacGillivray) came and claimed a few crosses and corners, but there was not much else.

“You know you'll have to defend at points in games and you have to do the nitty gritty of the game. We've done that by far better than last season.

“The gaffer has drilled into us about defending the goal and our box. We're slowly getting better at it, we know we need more clean sheets. We need to go and work on that.”
