Matt Dennis shared his thoughts after he secured victory at the JobServe Community Stadium…

23 August 2023

MK Dons forward Matt Dennis shared his thoughts after scoring a last-minute goal to secure all three points against Colchester United at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Although it was Dons who opened the scoring through Mo Eisa’s glancing header, Colchester were the team to maintain a lead throughout 75 minutes of in-game play.

Eisa’s goal was cancelled out moments later when the home side had equalised through Joe Taylor, and it didn’t take long for the U’s number 25 to double his tally and overturn the score-line.

That was until Alex Gilbey’s composed chip had levelled the game once more, prior to the 11 minutes of added time displayed soon after.

In the dying moments of the Sky Bet League Two skirmish, Matt Dennis, who was substituted onto the field in the second-half, had produced a rapid touch and finish to find the back of the net. Which ultimately rewarded MK Dons with all three points.

“I’m very excited and delighted by my goal.” Dennis said when explaining his magical moment to the press following the success at the JobServe Community Stadium.

He added “Three points is what’s really important. Thank you to the fans, and to the team for pushing all the way. I’m really excited and I couldn’t quite believe it myself. It was beautiful.”

Dennis recently suffered an injury, which saw the number 30 isolated from the squad within the first three league fixtures of the season. On his dramatic return, the striker mentioned:

“It’s always going to be difficult breaking into this side. I have two top players ahead of me, but that just means I’ve got to work harder in training and keep pushing. Keep doing my best.

“I’ve been out for a few weeks, but what a way to get back in. Today was a good day. We know there’ll be bumps in the road, but we have to keep believing, keep pushing, and keep picking up wins.”
