Head Coach Graham Alexander reflects on his side's 1-0 win over Tranmere Rovers at Stadium MK...

13 August 2023

Graham Alexander is focused on victories and his side have two of them from as many games to start the 2023/24 season.

MK Dons, who beat Wrexham 5-3 on opening day, made it back-to-back triumphs with a 1-0 win over Tranmere Rovers at Stadium MK - Mo Eisa’s first-half header proving the difference, as Alexander’s men maintained their perfect start to the new campaign.

While acknowledging that his team’s performance was far from perfect in his post-match press conference, the MK Dons Head Coach made it clear that winning is all that really matters.

“There will always be things to improve but we're about dominating score-lines and winning games and that's what we've done in successive league games,” Alexander said when speaking to the media after Saturday’s win.

“There were things we could have done better but we got the three points and that's the main thing.”

He continued: “We deserved to win from the first-half performance. We were absolutely excellent in the first-half, and I couldn't ask for much more apart from some clinical finishing to finish off some of our attacks and further our lead.

“We knew there would be a response from the opposition. Tranmere went a bit more gung-ho in the second-half and they kept changing shape with their subs so it was hard to get a grip on what they were doing.

“There will be games where we play really well when we'll score goals, like we did last week, but then there will be games, like today, when we have to grind it out.”

With two wins from two, MK Dons top the Sky Bet League Two table with six points and a superior goal difference over the other two sides with maximum returns from their opening games – Barrow and Gillingham.

Focus for Alexander, though, is on what his team need to do to keep the form going. He said: “The players took a step forward today but we have to take that into Tuesday. You saw the effort the players put in towards the win today - we'll have to do it all again on Tuesday!”
