MK Dons Head Coach Graham Alexander reflects on his side's 5-3 win over Wrexham...

Graham Alexander dedicated Saturday’s season-opening victory to the Club and the supporters.

In MK Dons’ first game back after suffering relegation to Sky Bet League Two, Alexander’s side produced an excellent away display to beat bookies-favourites, Wrexham, 5-3 at the STōK Cae Ras.

Backed by a sell-out away crowd, it was the ideal start to the 2023/24 campaign for MK Dons’ new Head Coach and he had a message for the supporters, and those associated with the Club, in his post-match press conference.

“I'm delighted for everyone,” Alexander said. “It has been a traumatic year but look at the numbers we've brought here today - it shows the loyalty is still there.”

The Head Coach continued: “There's a lot of work to do, but today is a good start. We're trying to put things in place and hopefully, that's a taste that we can be successful.

“We were always going to approach the game by starting brightly. We got about them, pressed them and made them turn the ball over.

“We knew if we can get the ball, we can hurt teams. We have good quality so we have to get those players into good positions as often as we can.

“Today, we were clinical. The quality of the goals was excellent. We know we have quality, but we have to do all the other things right to make sure that quality counts.

“The work ethic was unbelievable. I said to them before the game 'I've tried to kill you in pre-season, but you're still here so you must still have a load in the tank!' Seeing how much the players have put in in pre-season, I’m delighted for them.

“It's a great feeling but these three points will win us no more this season, so we have to keep going. We will learn from what we did well and look to improve on what we can do better.”
