Dons Women fall short to the Tractor Girls…

17 April 2023

An early double for the travelling team resulted in a 2-0 Stadium MK defeat for MK Dons Women.

Following back-to-back tests against teams fighting to remain within the FAWNL Southern Premier Division, Charlie Bill’s side then had to prepare for an opposite challenge near the top-end of the table.

The Dons welcomed the current third-place side to Stadium MK for a league skirmish, which could’ve seen Ipswich rise to the top of the league. On the other hand, a result in the home side’s favour would’ve help them defend their position within the top five of the table.

FIRST HALF

A sharp start from the visitors saw them take control of the opening exchanges. MK Dons found it difficult to withstand the oncoming attacks, until eventually, Ipswich Town gained the advantage 11 minutes after the starting whistle. 0-1

An early set-back saw the momentum swing in the travelling team’s favour, which allowed them to double their lead minutes after the opener.

The Tractor Girls maintained their advances of the Dons’ back-line, which later caused trouble within the penalty area. The referee had deemed a foul against MK Dons and Ipswich were awarded with a penalty. The spot-kick was converted, and Town had the upper-hand on the Stadium MK side. 0-2

Although two early goals delt a big blow to Charlie Bill’s Women, they managed to see out the remainder of the half without conceding a third. Allowing more of a possibility to claw their way back into the fixture.

SECOND HALF

The first 45-minute stage gave the hosts a hill to climb against one of the top teams within the league. But that didn’t dishearten MK Dons, who continued their pursuit to find something from the match.

Unfortunately, the Dons couldn’t find their way back into the game as Ipswich Town sustained a clean-sheet throughout the tie. However, a strong second-half display limited Town to little in front of goal and no further action (in terms of goals) was seen.

A tough match-up saw MK Dons suffer a 2-0 defeat at Stadium MK. However, other results within the league benefited Charlie Bill’s team, who currently remain in fifth position.
