Jackson: Proud of second-half fight

Head Coach Mark Jackson reflects on his side's 1-1 draw with Derby County...

Mark Jackson was proud of the way in which his side bounced back from a below-par first half to secure a point away at Derby County and extend their unbeaten run.

For the third game in a row, MK Dons fought from a goal down to earn a share of the spoils against a play-off contender – Henry Lawrence’s first career league effort enough to cancel out David McGoldrick’s opener at Pride Park Stadium.

The result stretches the Dons’ run without defeat to six games and, crucially, moves them four points clear of the bottom four in Sky Bet League One.

“I'm really proud of what we did in the second-half,” Head Coach Jackson said in his post-match press conference.

“We had to be honest at half-time. We knew it wasn't good enough and we had to do things differently in the second-half. Credit to the players, we executed what we had to do perfectly.

“We had to defend, backs to the wall at times from Derby's set-plays and the pressure they put on us, but they do that to a lot of teams that come to Pride Park. I'm just delighted we were able to do that in the second half and get the point.”

Jackson continued: “We wanted to keep the run going. We approach every game differently but always wanting to win it. Coming here, though, if we'd have been offered a point, we'd have been happy with it.

“It shows, again, that we can compete with teams at the top of the table, which is a real positive in the here and now but also in the future. It provides belief.”

Lawrence was the scorer of the Dons’ equaliser, registering his first career league goal. On his effort, Jackson said: “I'm delighted for him to get the goal.

“He grew into it after struggling in the first-half, just as the rest of the team did, but he had a really strong performance in the second.”
