MK Dons midfielder Matt Smith has been named in Wales’ squad for the FIFA World Cup.

Smith, who has been capped 18 times for his country, becomes the first MK Dons player to represent his nation at a World Cup while contracted to the Club.

The midfielder is one of 26 players named in Robert Page’s squad for the FIFA World Cup, which also includes the likes of Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and former MK Dons loanee Jonny Williams.

Smith will report to Wales’ team base this Sunday before flying out to Qatar ahead of their first Group B match against the United States of America on Monday 21 November. Wales will also face Iran (Fri 25 Nov) and England (Tue 29 Nov).

He will, of course, be unavailable for MK Dons during his time at the FIFA World Cup, with the Sky Bet League One season set to continue through the tournament.
