Manning: Use Cup form as fuel

Head Coach Liam Manning reflects on his side's 2-0 victory over Morecambe in the Carabao Cup...

Head Coach Liam Manning wants MK Dons to use their Cup form as fuel for when they return to Sky Bet League One action this weekend.

The Dons beat Morecambe on Tuesday night in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup – a result which made it four games without defeat and without conceding a goal.

Manning’s men welcome Derby County to Stadium MK on Saturday for their first league game for a fortnight, and the MK Dons Head Coach is hopeful the momentum gained over the past two weeks will benefit his side against the Rams.

“It's a few now in a row and we have to take this form into the weekend,” Manning said in his post-match press conference on Tuesday night.

“We've got to take some of our cup form now into the league games. We’ve got to keep going, turning up week-in, week-out and delivering what we have done in the last few.”

Manning continued: “(Tuesday) was another solid performance, in the first half especially. We started the game well and we set the tone early on with two really good chances in the first six minutes.

“It was a terrific goal from Woz (Warren O’Hora) from a set piece - it was a terrific finish. It was a good goal from Matty too - a terrific run and he showed his qualities, his power, his pace and composure.

“Overall, we had really controlled and purposeful possession and e restricted them to very few chances and looked really dangerous.”

Here is what else Liam Manning had to say in his post-match press conference…

On taking our chances…
“It's about being clinical and ruthless. We've seen it in games this season when we've created chances and not scored but now we're starting to add that element.”

On the next round of the Carabao Cup…
“It would be great for the lads (to get a big team), especially after our run to give them a lift. But who we get, we get.”
