Lawrence: Turning performances into results

Defender reflects on the 3-1 defeat to Derby County...

15 November 2022

Henry Lawrence says it’s now about turning performances into results, having found some consistency in terms of positive displays.

MK Dons have looked more like themselves in recent weeks and produced another solid outing against Derby County last weekend, only to lose 3-1 and fall to their defeat in five games.

In his post-match interview with the media after Saturday’s game, Lawrence acknowledged the Dons’ improvement in terms of performances but knows they now need to find a way to convert those into points on a regular basis.

“The result is what we all look at, but we were really good in the first half, so it's a positive we can take away,” the Chelsea loanee said.

“We want wins on board to turn things around. It's frustrating because you can see the performances are there, it's the results we need now - but a month ago, neither were there!”

Reflecting on the game itself, Lawrence added: “In the first half, we were all over them and should have killed them off, but we gave away that sloppy set-piece just before half time and it killed us.

“It gave them the momentum they needed. If we had come in 1-0 up at half-time, we'd have had momentum and we'd have been on top so that goal before half-time really hurt us.”

Saturday was Lawrence’s third successive league start and the 21-year-old hopes to keep his place in the line-up by continuing to perform in matches and on the training ground.

“Every player has to fight for the shirt, and you can only do that by training hard and playing well,” he said.

“As long as I can keep doing it, getting games and fighting, hopefully I can keep doing well.”
