Cumming: Massive improvements

Jamie Cumming shared his thoughts after back-to-back clean sheets…

1 November 2022

Jamie Cumming spoke to the press following a 0-0 draw at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium, which allowed the goalkeeper to claim back-to-back clean sheets.

Cumming was first loaned out to MK Dons in January to compete under Liam Manning for the remainder of the 2021/22 season. After that, The Chelsea goalkeeper then returned to Stadium MK on another loan deal in August.

Since arriving at the club, the shot-stopper has amounted a total of 16 clean sheets, which currently ties him fifth in club history (alongside Ian McLoughlin) for most clean sheets awarded.

After Liam Manning’s men claimed four points within a week, Jamie Cumming had this to say “I think we've shown massive improvements in the last couple of games.

“If you look at where we were at the start of the week, everyone at the club would have taken four points. Two clean sheets is a positive too, we haven't had many of those and it's something we know we need to get better at.

“Having a settled defence is a good thing, and we've struggled for that consistency for most of the season. Recently, we've looked a lot more solid and we're happy with that.”

A point wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for a remarkable save from the MK Dons goalkeeper, who adjusted himself brilliantly to prevent James Olayinka’s deflected shot at goal.

When questioned about the stop, the number one added “It was a good save I think - hope it looked good anyway! It took a deflection and I just about managed to get there.”

The Dons’ long-serving captain Dean Lewington hit an incredible milestone of 900 senior career games played after starting against Cheltenham.

When asked about the Skipper’s accolade, Cumming replied “It's incredible. No-one knows how he does it, and he's so solid every week. He's brilliant on the pitch and in the dressing room he is massive for us.”
