Before this fixture, the Dons were two points clear of the relegation zone, a victory was pivotal to ensure their safety within the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

Keynsham had already suffered relegation. Finishing 13th in the league with 18 points, meant that this match was a consolation to the opponents, whereas Charlie Bill’s Women had to achieve a victory.

Rhianne Rush opened the scoring on the 25-minute mark, a powerful strike from 20-yards out had beaten Xanna Kierk, and the ball crashed into the back of the net.

MK Dons carried the momentum from the early goal and soon after they increased their lead. Chez Albert located Nicole Pepper on the edge of the D, Pepper struck the ball well and as a result, the teams lead was doubled heading into the break.

Charlie Bill’s Women continued their strong performance which expanded their lead to three, five minutes after Half-Time. Lucy Wood produced a calm finish, she rifled the ball across the K’s keeper from the right side of the box.

Albert, who played her last game in a Dons shirt due to retiring, had a memorable finale. The number nine caused problems throughout the match, achieved an assist, and claimed the fourth goal with an unstoppable finish, which located the top-right corner of the net from outside the area.

Wood attained her brace, the number 11 collected the ball and fired a shot goal bound, which deflected and caused confusion for Kierk. This escalated the lead to 5-0 with five minutes left of play.

The away team gathered a consolation late in the game, Henna Butcher’s speed allowed her to poke the ball away from Sansom, and bring one back for the opposition.

The referee signalled for Full-Time, and celebrations filled with positive emotion erupted in Stadium MK. The team had managed to survive relegation with a convincing victory, which helped them to achieve 29 points. In-turn, this allowed them to take up ninth position at the end of their 2021/2022 campaign.
