MK Dons Under-18s faced Forest Green Rovers in a Merit League 2 game which saw the Young Dons take three points in a 2-1 victory.

Having lost their first game against Leyton Orient, the Young Dons claimed their redemption with a 2-1 success at Woughton on the Green. Tommy Blennerhassett’s brace, scoring once in each half, secured the win.

Blennerhassett stepped up to take the penalty that MK Dons had been awarded, his right-footed strike locates the right side of the net. The Rovers keeper dived the correct way and got a glove to the ball, nevertheless the number nine’s shot was too powerful to be stopped.

Joshua Adepoju’s quick speed and tricky footwork allowed him the space to execute a low-driven cross, which rolled through Forest Green’s box. This cross located the left boot of Albert Wood, who strikes the ball, just inside the area. The Rover’s keeper prevented Wood’s attempt from reaching the bottom left corner of the net, only for that save to fall into the path of the unmarked Blennerhassett, who strikes home the winning goal with his left foot from close range.

This has been the second-round triumph for Bitting’s side this week, as he also coached the MK Dons team that triumphed over Beaconsfield Town in the BBFA Senior Cup Quarter-Final in which a lot of young Dons stars featured.

MK Dons: Hayton, Wood, Waller, Lewis-Burgess, Anderson (Boyce 45), Mann (Daffern 60), Tripp, Bombo, Blennerhassett, Fletcher, Jallow (Adepoju 20)
Subs: Stacey and Orphanides
