MK Dons Women suffered a 5-1 defeat to Plymouth Argyle, away at the Manadon Sports Hub.
Charlie Bill’s Women remain 11th in the Women’s Southern Premier Division after the match ended in favour of the Pilgrims. A two-point difference separates the Dons and safety, which they look to achieve as they head into the last four matches of the season.
Both teams started well, with chances being created on either side of the field. Plymouth then opened the scoring eight minutes into the match. Ward crossed the ball into the box which reached the head of Knapman, who converted the header into the Dons net.
A through ball found the run of Ireland down the right flank, the number 11 whipped the ball across goal which deflected off a Dons defender, this resulted in an unfortunate own goal, which aided Plymouth to lead by two after 16 minutes.
MK Dons halved the deficit ten minutes before the break, Woods' strike from the edge of the box seemed too powerful to be stopped as it rifled over Soper into the back of the net.
Cunningham was brought on after Crawford went off injured. Soon after the Pilgrim’s number eight helped regain their 2-goal lead, by cutting inside with the ball, which she then placed bottom corner, five minutes after the Dons goal.
Charlie Bill’s Women created another chance before the break, but they were unable to convert. The referee signalled for half-time, Plymouth led the game 3-1 going into the break.
The Dons replicated their first half with a strong start, they created good chances high up the field, but much like the first half the good start was soon cancelled out after Knapman claimed her brace in minute 62 of the game. Knapman’s shot deflected off an MK Dons defender and reached the back of the net.
MK Dons then fell behind by four, after Cunningham obtained her second goal of the match, the number eight picked out the bottom left corner from her long-range effort. This last goal helped the result in end as a 5-1 victory to Plymouth Argyle.
