MK Dons Women returned to winning ways on Sunday as they took a huge three points away from their FAWNL Southern Premier Division clash with Chichester & Selsey.
Charlie Bill’s team displayed their fighting spirit after being 1-0 down in the first half as Chez Albert’s brace and Sofia Stovold’s header secured a 3-1 victory for the Dons, meaning they are now just one point off safety.
Chichester began the game strong and were soon rewarded for their efforts 15 minutes into the match, as Natasha Wild took the ball past the keeper for an easy finish into an open net.
The home team didn’t stop applying the pressure for the duration of the first half with their goal seemingly giving them a boost, which they used to continue their attacking pressure. However, a strong defensive performance and a great save from Chloe Sansom before the break made sure that Chichester didn’t further their lead.
Charlie Bill’s Women started the second half juxtaposed to their first and they levelled the game just three minutes after the break. Albert stunned the crowd with her long-range strike, which rifled into the net after the number nine caught Sadie Blakely off her line.
Ten minutes after the equaliser, MK Dons Women were awarded a free kick which was crossed into the box. Stovold rose above the Chichester defence and headed the ball towards goal and located back of the net - the Dons centre back gained the lead of the match with 35 minutes of play left.
Albert then replicated her first goal which ensured her brace. Another stunning shot from 25 yards out allowed the team to increase their lead by two goals and sustain their impressive second-half form. After their success in attack, the Dons showed great game management through some more strong defensive and possession play.
After being 1-0 down in 15 minutes Charlie Bill’s Women expressed their determination to win and were awarded the spoils with a 3-1 victory at the 90-minute mark as a result of this.
